Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Faculty of Dentistry Hospital has surpassed another significant milestone in healthcare services. The first dental operation under general anesthesia was successfully completed at the hospital. This operation is considered not only a technical success but also a historic turning point in terms of providing more comprehensive and safe healthcare services to the residents of Burdur and surrounding provinces.

The operation was carried out smoothly thanks to the coordinated work of experienced dentists and the anesthesia and reanimation team. With the active use of the general anesthesia infrastructure, an important healthcare service gap has been filled, especially for cases requiring advanced surgery, individuals with special needs, and patients with high anxiety.

Vice Rector and also the patient of this first operation, Prof. Dr. Hakan Öner, stated in his post-operation statement that this development is not just a clinical application but the result of a vision spanning many years; “At the point where this hospital has reached today, there is a great contribution from all our managers, academicians, and healthcare workers who have worked hard from past to present. The ability to perform dental operations under general anesthesia demonstrates the level of scientific, technical, and human capacity our institution has reached. This capacity is a great source of confidence not only for our university but also for the people of Burdur.”

Prof. Dr. Öner also expressed special thanks to the doctors and anesthesia team involved in the operation process, saying: “I sincerely thank all our dentist professors, anesthesia specialists, technicians, and healthcare personnel who managed this process with great professionalism, meticulousness, and dedication. Their knowledge, team spirit, and human-centered approach have formed the foundation of this success.”

Thanks to the developing infrastructure, modern operating room equipment, and qualified healthcare staff of the MAKÜ Faculty of Dentistry Hospital, residents of Burdur can now access more comprehensive oral and dental health services in their own city. This situation both reduces the need for referrals outside the city and creates a strong healthcare ecosystem that instills confidence in citizens.

Officials stated that this capacity is aimed to be further developed in the upcoming period, providing the highest level of service to the regional population with advanced surgical applications and multidisciplinary healthcare services.

This first operation, which opened the door to a new era in healthcare services in Burdur, went down in history as a concrete indicator of university-city integration and institutional vision.
